running late, taking the long way round

It's too hot.

I got abused by a taxi driver today. Out of all people to make judgement calls on my motoring skills, a taxi driver....THEY CAN'T DRIVE!!!!!

The pleb was just upset cos I cut in front of him....at 100 kph....

Even his fare came to give me stick.

Well, Mr. Taxi wanker, if you guys did your job properly, then MAYBE I would listen. But for now, just get back into your car and shut your mouth.

There was a reason why I was driving like a maniac today. But by maniac I really mean driving skills to pay the bills. I had to take my dear friend, Mike Haydon to the airport this morning. And we were already running late.

To make matters worse, when we were on citylink, we missed the turnoff for the airport. So we ended up going OVER the West Gate Bridge. Frik!!

But I didn't fear. I had my trusty car (my lovely Subaru Forester, who is named Millennium Falcon) to pull me through. I regrouped, got off the freeway at Williamstown road, up into Footscray, down Geelong road, past Flemington racecourse and managed to get back on Citylink at Mt Alexander road. I by-passed the Bolte Bridge, which meant all that was left was a straight run up Tullamarine freeway. And boy did I gun it up that freeway..must have been doing 120 at one point. No way was Mike going to miss that flight.

So we got there, and I cut the taxi off at the front of the airport. He stopped behind me at the departure terminal dropoff. So not only did he berate me for my daring efforts, he was wasting valuable seconds of Mike's time.

Those who know me well know I'm a pretty placid driver. Today, I even surprised myself. This really has cemented how awesome this new car is, and that we make a great team. Me and the ol' girl have a tale to tell now.

And in the end, Mike made his flight. Right on.

  1. Is Subaru an Australian company? The tv ads in America always have this guy with a thick Aussie accent...but I always wondered.

Thanks for the play by play of the morning drive...not that it made any sense to me. :P I'd yell at you too if you cut me off. Well, I'd probably just lean on the horn long enough for it to be awkward and give you the stink eye when you looked back.

Leave earlier next time and maybe you won't have to speed?
